The Oil Spot is Miles Petroleum's newsletter, which is sent out to communicate with our farm and commercial customers. It is now available online as well.

With the changes that we were abruptly exposed to last year regarding the sale of kerosene for aviation we scrambled and began distributing Jet A Fuel just as the spray season started last season.

Evidently, when the state of Michigan began acknowledging dyed and undyed fuels effective April 1, 2001, someone in their infinite wisdom tagged on language that stated it was a felony to sell or buy kerosene (K-1) for aviation purposes. Whether we agree or not isn't the point, because believe me, I argued until I was blue in the face and the state is not going to change it.

Barry and Liat

Because of our association with some local aerial sprayers that were involved with the state, we scrambled and began hauling Jet A around the state. We were out three days a week delivering Jet Fuel the rest of the spraying season.

Miles Petroleum, Inc was formed 8 years ago and is owned by my wife, Liat, and myself (Barry). We have built the business on bulk deliveries and we have stayed away from owning gas stations. We have six full time fuel trucks and 1 truck dedicated to aviation fuels only. We are adding a second 4,000-gallon truck, which will also be available for this spraying season. We also have three motor oil trucks and 3 propane trucks.

I grew up in Northwest Ohio on a cash crop farm, where we also grew green peppers, pickles and tomatoes. My degree is in agriculture economics and my background includes running a full service elevator that specialized in agronomy. This has served me well and has been the major reason for the strong relationship Miles Petroleum has enjoyed with the agricultural community.

My hope with this special edition newsletter is to help shed some light on topics of interest to our aerial aviators around the state and make it known to you as well that we are ready, able and willing to work with you wherever we can.

If you enjoy going on the Internet, you can keep tabs on what we have going on at our website. In Miles Petroleum's website, you will find some of the products we offer, including tanks, pumps, hoses and nozzles. We also offer AeroShell and Phillips aviation oils. I hope some of the enclosed information will be of use to you!
